Best Dressed: Met Gala 2017

Debo confesar que el Met Gala es uno mis 4 eventos más esperados del año, junto con los Óscars, el Festival de Cannes, y navidad. Cada año espero con ansias este día, pero no tiene nada que ver en realidad con la inauguración de arte. En parte sí, en realidad, porque me encanta el arte y me encanta la moda, y verlos unirse por una noche es algo fantástico. Pero los pasillos del Metropolitan Museum no son lo primero que busco cada primer domingo de mayo: son los vestidos que las celebridades usan.

I must confess the Met Gala is one of my 4 most expected events of the year, along with the Oscars, the Cannes Film Festival, and Christmas. Every year I wait anxiously for that day, but it has nothing to do with the art exhibition. In a way yes, actually, because I love fashion, and I love art, and seeing them together for one night is fantastic. But the hallways of the Metropolitan Museum are not the first things I look for the first Monday in may: it’s the dresses celebrities wear.

El tema de este año fue la diseñadora japonesa Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, "una de las más importantes e influentes diseñadoras de los últimos 40 años”, según Vogue (y quién por un momento no asistiría a la misma) . Con colores intensos, diseños extravagantes y siluetas dignas de un retrato; esta gala fue prometedora desde su inicio.

This year’s theme was japanese designer Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, “one of the most important and influential designers of the last forty years”, according to Vogue (and who for one moment wasn’t attending the party). With bold colors, extravagant designs and sillhouettes worthy of a portrait; this gala was promosing since its announcement.

Y luego de ver absolutamente cada vestido y cada look de las personas que asistieron, aquí está mi lista de mis looks favoritos de la noche. Cabe resaltar que hubieron muchos más que me gustaron, pero hay otro factor importantísimo aquí, el factor ‘¡SÍ!’. Que consiste básicamente en el segundo en el que veía un look y mi mente reaccionaba automáticamente con un ‘¡SÍ!’. Cuando iba más allá de lo racional, cuando no tenía que pensarlo para que me encantara. Esa primera impresión fue crucial acá, y fue lo que determinó quienes entraron en mi lista, y quienes no.

Acabo de leer la última línea, y sonó mucho más malvada y elitista de lo que pensé. Prometo que no fue mi intención. Solo es una lista. Y esta recopilación surge de una perspectiva completamente personal.

And after watching absolutealy every dress and every outfit of the people who went there, this is my list of my favorite looks of the night. It is worth mentioning that there were many other looks that I liked, but there was another factor here, the ‘YES!’ factor. Which basicly consists of the second I saw a look and my mind automatically reacted with a big ‘YES!’. When it was beyond reason, when I didn’t have to think about it to love it. That first impression was crucial here, and it determined who got into my list, and who didn’t.

I just read that last sentence outloud, and it sounded much more evil and elitist that I thought. I promise that wasn’t my intention. It’s just a list. And it came from a completely personal approach.
