Un par de meses después del mes de la moda, me pongo finalmente a pensar en las pasarelas y en las calles que las rodearon. Nueva York, Milán, París, Londres. Todas esas ciudades se inundan dos veces al año de moda y belleza, reciben a cientos de modelos, diseñadores, fotógrafos, maquilladores, etc. Es un frenesí.

Pero del caos surge la belleza.

Y de ese hermoso caos, salieron 5 de mis tendencias favoritas.

Now that it’s been a few weeks since fashion month, I’m finally catching up. I’ve started thinking about the runways and the streets around them. New York, Milan, Paris, London. All those cities flooded twice a year with fashion and beauty, receiving hundreds of models, designers, photographers, makeup artists, journalists, etc.

It’s a total frenzy.

But from chaos arises beauty. And from that beautiful chaos, came 5 of my favorite trends this season.

Sé que para el hemisferio norte es la temporada Primavera/Verano y que nosotros deberíamos estar en Otoño/Invierno, pero el sol al lado de mi ventana y la temperatura no me dicen eso. Me convencen de que aún queda tiempo para el sol y el cielo azul, y para la ropa que acompaña sus días y noches. Después de hacer una vista a las pasarelas del mes de la moda, este es un resumen de mis 5 tendencias favoritas, así como cómo cada una se ve aplicada al uso de diario.

Porque no todas podemos usar vestidos de gala cada fin de semana.

I know that for the northern hemisphere it’s Spring/Summer, and that we should be in Fall/Winter, but the sun shining through my window and the temperature do not validate that. They convince me that there is still time for the sun and blue skies and for the clothes that acompany their days and nights.

After checking out the runways, this is a summary of my 5 favorite trends, and also how you can include them into your everyday wardrobe.

Because not all of us can wear designer dresses every weekend.

Vuelos Altos

Me encanta esta tendencia porque da una cierta elegancia al look completo, la cual evoca a los trajes antiguos de la nobleza, pero con un twist moderno. Además, crean ligeras siluetas en el cuerpo que juegan con los ojos y le añaden curvas a la imagen completa, resaltando el lado más femenino de la mujer. Maximizan el movimiento al caminar, creando un efecto casi de película, donde la ropa brilla y tiene vida propia.

I love this trend because it gives a certain elegance to the whole look, which evokes the old monarchist gowns, but with a modern twist. They also create slight silhouettes in the body that play with the eyes and add curves to the complete image, highlighting the most femenine side of the woman. It maximizes the movement by walking, creating an almost movie-like effect, where the clothes shine and have a life of their own.

Fiesta en el jardín

Me sorprendió realmente lo mucho que me gustaron las flores en las pasarelas. Dicho esto, cabe mencionar que suelo ser de las personas que usan colores enteros, incluso a veces con un look enteramente monocromático.

Cuando vi estas prendas en la pasarelas, despertaron en mí un cierto cariño por la naturaleza. Y sé que pareciera cliché poner flores en la temporada de primavera (Miranda Priestly lo dijo, no yo), pero siento que este enfoque es nuevo y se reinventa en el corte. Siento que esta tendencia refleja la belleza de la vida de una manera que ilumina la pasarela, y la celebra intensificando los colores, con diseños modernos y detallistas que parten lejos de las típicas flores lado a lado, generando esta fiesta eterna en el diseño, y en la vida.

I was really surprised by how much I liked this trend in the runway. With that said, it’s worth mentioning that I’m the type of person who wears solid entire colors, even sometimes an entire monochromatic outfit.

But when I saw these, they woke inside me a certain tenderness for nature. And I know it will seem cliché having flowers in spring (Miranda Priestly said it, I didn’t), but I feel like this is a new approach to it, that reinvents itself in the cut. I feel like this trend reflects the beauty of life in a way that enlightens the runway, and celebrates it intensifying the colors, with modern and detailed designs that grow apart from the typical flowers side to side, generating this eternal party in design, and life.

Casi invisible

Yo creo que esta tendencia celebra también la vida, pero desde un enfoque distinto.

La magia recae en que salta entre la realidad y la fantasía, dejando ver fragmentos de piel, pero solo sugiriendo los espacios ocultos. Juega con la mirada, guiándola por partes del cuerpo mientras dibuja su camino entre telas y costuras.

Permite una profundidad, contraste y degrade de colores increíble, lo cual crea una gran cantidad de capas y superficies dentro del mismo traje. Es como una ilusión óptica. Miras, y tienes que mirar de nuevo. Porque a cada paso es diferente, algunas partes se oscurecen y otras partes se aclaran con el reflejo de la luz, y cada espacio es un pedacito de una constante batalla entre lo cubierto y descubierto.

Es delicado, pero atrevido a la vez. Llama la atención, pero los detalles están escondidos. Te incita a acercarte a admirar cada elemento, pero cuando te das cuenta, te perdiste entre lo visible y lo invisible.

I think this trend celebrates life too, but in a completely different way. It touches a different nerve: excitement, suggestion.

The magic relays on the jumps between fantasy and reality, leaving to the sight fragments of skin, but only suggesting the darkened spaces. It plays with the eyes, guiding it through areas of the body while it draws its way between fabrics and seams.

It allows an incredible depth, contrast and color gradient, which creates and endless number of layers within the same piece. It’s like an optical illusion. You look, and you have to look again. Because every step it’s different, some parts disappear, and other parts shine through the light reflection, and every bit of space is a constant battle between the covered and uncovered.

It’s delicate, but at the same time daring. It draws your attention, but the details and hidden. It encourages you to come closer to admire each element, but when you realize it, you are lost between the visible and the invisible.

Oxford 2.0

Lo especial de esta tendencia es que retrata el proceso de la moda.

Demuestra que incluso lo más clásico, lo más tradicional, cambia, todo se mueve, se adapta con el tiempo. Hay nuevas maneras de ver las cosas, de estilizarlas. Es como el principio de la materia: nada desaparece, solo cambia.

Y no solo se trata de la moda, es una alegoría a cómo funciona el mundo: la literatura, la pintura, el cine. Todo es una adaptación de lo anterior. Todo tiene raíces en el pasado y da frutos para el futuro.

Es algo esperanzador en realidad, una muestra de cómo la fragilidad del ahora no se desvanece, sino que resurge de diferentes maneras, en diferentes cortes. Se reinventa con el contexto del momento, pero mantiene su esencia, la cual se traspasa de generación en generación, creando lo que conocemos como cultura.

The special thing about this trend is that it portraits the process of fashion.

It shows that even the most classical thing, the most traditional, changes, everything moves, adapts with time. There are new ways of looking at the world, new ways of styling it. It’s like the principle of matter: nothing disappears, it just changes.

And it’s not just about fashion, it’s an allegory of how world works: literature, art, movies. Everything is an adaptation of something prior.

It’s something hopeful actually, showing how the fragility of the present doen’t vanish, but it resurfaces in different ways, different cuts. It reinvents itself within the context of the moment, but it keeps its essence, which transfer from generation to generation, creating what we know as culture.

Loafers sin espalda

Finalmente, los loafers fueron los elementos sorpresivos de esta temporada, por lo menos para mí. Supongo que es parte de crecer y madurar, pero solía pensar que no eran nada bonitos. Que les faltaba pedazos, que se veían extraños. Hasta que un día los vi, y me vi en ellos. Y me hizo cuestionarme mi clóset entero.

Ahora me encantan. Me parecen la mezcla perfecta entre elegantes y sencillos, clásicos y eternos, como si estudiase literatura inglesa en Oxford o tuviera un trabajo importante de oficina, pero relacionado a la moda. Adoro los que tienen bordado, ya que les dan un toque distintivo y personal. Son ligeros, pero a la vez conforman un elemento fuerte en un atuendo. Estas dualidades son lo que los hacen maravillosos. Dejan tanto qué pensar, me crean tanto que decir, y son solo objetos que cubren el fin de mi cuerpo.

Finally, backless loafers were the surprising element this season, at least for me. I guess it’s part of growing and maturing, but I used to think loafers were just so ugly. That they had missing pieces, they looked weird. Until one day I saw them, and I saw myself in them. And that moment made me question my whole wardrobe.

Now, I love them, and I dream of the day of being able to purchase a pair of classic Gucci pair (the black ones with the roses). I think they are the perfect mix between elegant and simple, classic and eternal, as if I studied English Literature in Oxford, or had an important job in an office. They are light, but at the same time are such a big element in an outfit. These dualities are what make them wonderful. They make me think and love so much, ¡and they are just covering the end of my body!
